Responses to the Daily Office Readings
Name:Daily Office
Location:Redmond, Washington, United States
Birthdate:1966-04-30
Bio:This journal is where I will be storing my thoughts about the Daily Office Lectionary readings from The Book Of Common Prayer (BCP) as used by the Episcopal Church, 1979 edition. I will usually be reading The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible.

Note that I'm posting my thoughts and feelings. I am not a priest, nor do I hold any leadership position in my parish. I'm happy to discuss the readings, but I certainly don't pretend to know "The Truth" about them.

Also, I do not regard the Bible as being what a current-day history professor would consider a literal, factual history. I do believe the Bible can communicates truth about God to those who seek it. (It can also be a wellspring of humor or blasphemy to those who seek such things...witness the sort of humor a teenager can get out of Romans 16:16, or Genesis 19:30 - 36, or the Song of Songs.)

The term "Office" means, in part:

  • A duty or function assigned to or assumed by someone.

  • Ecclesiastical. A ceremony, rite, or service, usually prescribed by liturgy, especially: a. The canonical hours. b. A prayer service in the Anglican Church, such as Morning or Evening Prayer. c. A ceremony, rite, or service for a special purpose, especially a rite for the dead.*

A few notes on friends lists:

  • If you want to add [info]dailyoffice as a friend, that's fine. Comments are great too.

  • I plan to use the [info]dailyoffice friends list for journals I find relevent to [info]dailyoffice. So don't be worried if you add [info]dailyoffice as a 'friend' and don't get 'friended' back.
